So you have been doing them stylesheets for quite some time or you might just be starting up, no matter who you are. If you haven’t been residing under a rock for the last couple of years you know there are some great CSS Frameworks out there. I like some of them more than others, especially the 960.gs which I’ve used once. You might say that using a framework once isn’t enough, but that comes down to how you use them and who you are. Personally I unzip the framework and first head over to their demo-html to get a good grip of what they are doing and then just take it apart one file/stylesheet at the time.

Why you might think, and I’m with you, but for me as a professional xhtml/css/javascript-developer I’m really picky about my stylesheets, structure of documents, naming conventions of classes and nine times out of ten handcode pretty much everything in my projects. That might be time consuming, but as a developer you learn what to do when something isn’t working properly and get the right fix from the last project you worked on where you were struggling with the same annoying Internet Explorer-bug (yes, it’s mostly IE, for me as a mac-user/developer anyway).

So, you have the experience dealing with problems and found the solutions. My friend, you are closing in on your very own CSS Framework. And this is where I will start my little series on CSS frameworks. In the next part I will cover some basics you should think about when you are starting your journey towards your own CSS Framework and then move on the to more juicy stuff like reset, grid and typography-stylesheets and something you will not get from a framework you download.

So, get my RSS-feed to know the second I publish the next post in the series or just swing by in a couple of days or so.

You want Espresso from Macrabbit that I wrote about earlier, right? You could get it, along with some other really impressive software such as LittleSnapper, The Hit List and possibly BoinxTV for only $39. You read right, only $39 for apps with a combined pricetag well over $600.

If the bundle alone isn’t enough to get you over there I can tell you that at the same time you get all your great apps you also support ten charities or just the one you choose with 25% of your $39. From my point of view it can’t get any better, so head over to macheist.com today and get some good apps at such a small price you should be there already! I’m on my way..

Other than that I have worked, and some more work on top of that. Recently I have finished up two sites, first out a site for a company who provide a sauna combined with a bathbin on wheels for you to rent, check that out http://www.bad-bastutunnan.se/

The other site is actually a Wordpress-powered blog for my girlfriend called florsitbloggen where she publish posts about her endavours at her floristeducation together with pictures of the bouquets and arrangements she produces, be sure to check her blog out at http://floristbloggen.se/

A few weeks ago I found a link to Espresso by MacRabbit on Twitter. Apart from the astonishing logo, the application seems really good before even launching with an intresting workspace, power snippets and code folding! They we’re also searching for testers and sugardaddys, to work on the sugars (to extend Espresso), wich I applied to.

Earlier this week I had a really good day getting an invite to Spotify and I also recived a mail from the Espresso developers over at MacRabbit and I’m selected to become a tester and I’m intending to develop some sugars myself if find something missing.

Unfortunally Espresso ain’t ready yet, but will be in a couple of weeks for testers and sugardaddys and I’m really excited and really wan’t it, now!

Yesterday I was happy to recive a invitation to try out Spotify by Robert.

Just registered my account and started exploring the application. It’s a really good iTuneish interface with the addition of great artist overview, biography and radio. Currently I’m listening to some really old Sepultura wich I haven’t heard in years but got it recomended by Spotify.

The Spotify radio was also really nice, but the selection of music didn’t really work out for me. It felt like I was getting the same artists again and again from a small selection of artists, wich I’m not to found of.

But the search functionality is really good and I found some really good songs I haven’t heard in a while and went on adding them to a playlist. Although I’d really like a similar artist function similar to the one on each artist’s overview.

But overall I’m stoked about the service and will try it out further!

I had some time to spare and made an example, since I haven’t done anything like that before. Although at the moment I’m not sure how to use the code. Maybe if you are going to have a “banner” behind all your content or some kind of stylesheet-switching.

The code is actually really simple, use 100% height and width on the html and body, a div with z-index:1; that’s positioned absolutely containing a link with full height and width and then another div positioned relatively with z-index:2; that is placed over the link.

Here is two examples:
http://magnusforsberg.com/demos/full-height.html
http://magnusforsberg.com/demos/full-height-link.html

Currently I am working on the design of this site. Right now it’s rolling out on a standard Wordpress installation with the default theme. But I have a design ready to get some handcoded XHTML, CSS and jQuery. Wich means I probably will have a custom Wordpress-theme ready in a while.
